Cochrane Generals pocket another home win
A shutout from Generals Davyn LaRocke and a hat trick from teammate Connor Stephenson in Game 3 puts Cochrane 2-1 in the series
The Generals’ home advantage has been working in the team’s favor so far in their seven-game series against the Red Deer Vipers.
The People lost 3-5 in Game 2 at Red Deer on March 5 after winning Game 1 of the series, but made a quick comeback at home the following day.
In two of the three games in the Heritage Junior Hockey League North Division Finals, the team enjoyed strong fan support to help them earn two wins away from Cochrane Arena.
People goaltender Davyn LaRocke finished Game 3 on March 6 with a shutout after stopping a total of 28 shots on goal and center Connor Stephenson had a hat trick and an assist to lead his team to a victory of 5-0.
Of the six penalties Red Deer had throughout the night, Cochrane capitalized on four of them, despite doubling the number of penalties themselves.
Defender Evan Black and alternate captain Tristan Ripplinger scored the other two goals for the team.
The two teams will meet on March 8 for Game 4 in Vipers territory and return to play in Cochrane on March 10 at 7:45 p.m.
The Generals currently lead the series 2-1 and need two more wins to secure the North and advance to the league finals.
Down south, the Okotoks Bisons lead their series against the Medicine Hat Cubs 3-0.
